The Lahore High Court has ordered the closure
of schools from December 23 until the first week of January. Judge Shahid Karim
ordered the closure of schools from December 23 to January 4.
The Lahore High Court heard smog-related
petitions. The Punjab government attorney ruled in court that Punjab schools
would be closed as of December 23 and a notice would be issued soon. Upon which
the court said it would further improve smog. Judge Shahid Karim postponed the
hearing on the petitions until next week.
Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood also said
Thursday that the winter break date for schools will be announced in a couple
of days. Shafqat Mehmood said that the National Command and Operations Center
(NCOC) delayed the winter break due to the ongoing vaccination campaign in
educational institutions.
The federal minister also met with Asad Umar and suggested
announcing the winter holidays from December 20. Shafqat Mahmood said that
winter is reaching its peak and that winter holidays should be announced soon.
Asad Umar was of the opinion that the winter holidays should be announced after
the end of the ongoing vaccination campaign in the institutions.
