A lakh of teaching positions are vacant in the public schools of Punjab at present, which has severely affected the quality of education provided in the public schools. Government officials, including the Punjab Chief Minister and the Minister of School Education, have announced several times that the recruitment process will start soon. But even after numerous announcements, the hiring process does not officially start.
The performance of teachers' colleges is being affected by the shortage of teachers. Various suggestions for recruitment were made. It was suggested that teachers be recruited through the NTS National Testing Service and through the Punjab Public Service Commission. Recently, the Minister of School Education, Dr. Murad, announced that the recruitment of 16,000 teachers will begin soon, but it is still in process and no practical progress has been made in this regard. The recruitment of teachers in the public schools of Punjab has taken a long time.
The Punjab Teachers' Union demanded that the recruitment process be started immediately to overcome the teacher shortage. There is a lot of pressure on teachers in schools due to teacher shortages which also affects teacher performance. The department must adopt whatever method it wishes, but the procedure must be transparent.
