Under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), the BISP smart card was launched for the disbursement of cash funds to all deserving people. NADRA played a crucial role in identifying legitimate individuals under the BISP programs through the application of various biometric checks. These payments are made through banks associated with the beneficiaries through a highly transparent mechanism. Subsequently, subsidies were granted to families through telephone banking. Beneficiaries were given a SIM and cell phone at the NADRA counter to receive SMS for the cash grant. After presenting an SMS and a valid copy of the NIC, the beneficiaries receive a cash subsidy through the Point of Sale (PoS) franchise.
The system has a total of more than 27 million households on board and more than 4 million BISP debit cards have been biometrically issued to beneficiaries. The BISP smart card, mobile phone, debit card and money order are the means used to facilitate the presence available.
